Horrible energy transfer occurs during high-speed accidents. It is unpredictable, violent, and immensely powerful.
A college friend of mine was fatally broadsided by a drunk moments after leaving our dormitory many years ago.

The force of flying out of his car ripped off his shoes, socks, shirt, and jacket...leaving him mangled at roadside in just a pair of denim jeans.
Debris was scattered randomly in every direction and completely without a notion of how it could have gotten there.

The low-res image doesn’t provide much detail, but two bikes appear to be on the shoulder. Some of the cyclists (20 in all?) might have veered onto the roadway to avoid being hit

Actually, looking closer at the debris field in that image and where it’s located in traffic lanes, and then looking at the truck damage to the right front of the vehicle...If the bicycles were off to the right, OUT of traffic lanes at the point of impact, there would have little or no debris in the traffic lanes and most of the debris would have been off to the right, on the shoulder, past the fog line (solid white line). So it’s a good bet at least some of the bicycles and their so call safety car where in the #2 lane of traffic at point of impact.

These kinds of people on those bicycles don’t drive on the shoulder, that’s for Illegals and other low-lifes. These people are SENDING A MESSAGE to the drivers of the Carbon-Spewing Vehicles which are ‘destroying the world’, by making it painful for them to continue with their sick habits.
