They seem to forget that the Free in Free Republic doesn’t give them full rein to criticize whatever they personally don’t like

I once got into it here with someone who insisted that she did not need to be able to stop within the distance she could see down the road as long as she was obeying the speed limit. When I showed her the DMV manual from her state, she refused to believe it. "If the speed limit says 80 mph and I can only see 50 feet because of fog, I can drive 80."

My mom and dad wisely told me when I was learning to drive that I would likely avoid 99% of vehicle accidents in my life simply by SLOWING DOWN to allow more "time cushion" for decisions.

As a longtime rider I have lost count of the impatient motorists who have passed me going uphill, around a blind corner, with a double-yellow line.

The part most mystifying to me is their absence of self-preservation. A dump truck loaded with sand might be coming downhill, unbeknownst to them.
Literally to save 5-6 seconds before the curve straightens again.
