I’m beginning to understand more fully, how people in my dad’s generation volunteered in droves to join the military to fight the demon Imperial Japan and Hitler’s Germany. Problem now is that those two entities, in a somewhat lesser form for now, exist within our borders and at many levels in our own government.

That last sentence is exactly what Ive been saying to my husband. Then, in our parents time during WWII, you had a defined enemy, physical, “over there” in another country. Now you have lies, deceit, betrayal from top to bottom mixed in our own country, neighbors, local officials. Thinking our own people would betray this wonderful country that we love so much It makes it very hard to imagine what a war would even look like, and I think what makes the anxiety so high. We are ready to stand, fight and help in any way, but need to have the discipline of patience and wait for instructions.

Less then 40% of all servicemen and women in WWII were volunteers. We would have lost the war if we didn’t have the draft.
