In 1861, the Maryland Legislature met with the intention of seceding from the Union and joining the Confederacy. Lincoln sent the Army into Annapolis to arrest and imprison the legislature before it could vote.

Among the options the Democrats have war-gamed in the event of a Trump win is having California, Oregon and Washington secede. I suspect the 82nd Airborne is being prepped for the invasion of Sacramento, Salem and Olympia to arrest the legislators before they can make their move.
