Shortly before 8pm, we received phone messages & texts that a manhunt was underway for “an armed and dangerous fugitive” — who was last seen near the little Primitive Baptist Church (now closed) in the woods 0.6 miles from our house.
We were advised to lock up our vehicles and outbuildings , and then to “lockdown" inside our homes, and told to call 911 if we see or hear anyone unknown near our house. (There are only a half dozen homes within a mile of our house in these dense woods.)
Since then, we've been continually orbited by a very quiet and stealthy single-engine turboprop aircraft at ~800-1,000 ft altitude. No doubt they have some serious night-vision and FLIR gear onboard. I just went outside to check (armed, of course) and, now, they have even turned off their wingtip lights.
The only agencies I’d expect to have resources like that would be the Texas Rangers — or some Federal unit…
The perp was walking up to folks' doors -- armed -- and robbing them. All roads into the area are blocked off; haven't heard a vehicle for hours (creepy!) The woods are full of LEOs, and, before dark, there were several drones over our area.
I’m debating whether to go to the gun safe in our storage building to retrieve the Valmet I stored there during our recent trip to central Texas… But — I really doubt anything will happen beyond the capability of the two 9mms I have here beside me.
