When one is operating as "close to the edge" as a Hornet (aka The Plastic Bug) does....and a Hornet operates very, VERY close if not beyond the edge...
Sh** Happens. (I'll beg forgiveness for my unfeeling attitude, but I've seen far too many things like this to give 'em a second glance....literally.)
Fortunately, the aircrew got out in spite of their encounter with the bad stuff and will live to fly another day.
Too bad about the bird, but there's more where that one came from.
