Donald Trump set the tone almost immediately after his election when he's backed off from his promises to prosecute Hillary Clinton for her crimes. Suddenly no more "lock her up", now instead the high road.

Why hasn't John Durham behaved like Wiseman? Why hasn't Durham spread indictments like scattershot to roll up the food chain at the Department of Justice and the FBI? Why hasn't the Department of Justice and the FBI jumped on the election fraud with both feet?

Because the pattern was set by President Trump whether through misplaced goodwill, a desire to appear presidential, behaving like a typical new administration trying to secure cooperation from the defeated party, or simple naïveté, the deep state concluded it could roll the president.

Not to put all the blame on the president, the media had so characterized Donald Trump by means of the Russia hoax that any attempt by him to actually perform his constitutional role as head of the Department of Justice and boss of the FBI would (and in fact did) lead to charges of obstruction of justice. Charges that would further compound Republican losses in the 2018 election in the House of Representatives and darken Trump's chances of reelection. So it is at least explainable why he stayed his hand.

Most of us were fooled by Attorney General Barr and Durham. We believed they were the real thing so we should not lightly blame the president for misjudging his men the same way we did. We were further deceived by Barr's coming clean on the Flynn case. Nevertheless, it all happened on the president's watch.

These wudda, coulda, shuddas are more than mere lamentations, they are battle scars that should school us about the kind of war being waged against us and how to counterattack.

I agree that Barr and Wray should be fired post haste.

Trump should appoint acting replacements without going through senate confirmation.

And if Clarence Thomas retires, McConnell should go straight to a confirmation vote. No spectacle for the Rats to smear and preen before the cameras.

That is a very good analysis your right not prosecuting Hillary and being neutered by the Russian probe did allow the professional Republicans and bureaucrats to stall, delay, and make go away the spying and false investigation against the President and now the election theft. The Republicans don’t care about the President they’re more concerned about getting Mike Lee’s Indian Immigration Tech give away done with more to come.

Agreed.

I think there is something else going on with this though. Despite Clinton's (and many others) blatant criminality and self-dealing, I think that the powers that be took the position that prosecuting Her, and possibly several others like Biden, that it would completely up the ante on post election prosecutions. That is, we could fully expect that each succeeding administration would wield the full power of the government and their hundreds of thousands of laws and regulations to completely destroy those who participated in the previous administration, like you see in many other banana republics across the globe.

I think the problem with this line of thinking is that it's going to happen anyway. We have seen in recent years how utterly unhinged the left has become. Anyone who thinks that Trump would be able to just go back to his life in relative peace under a Biden (or any democrat) administration is not living in the real world. I fully expect for Trump to be hounded mercilessly by the entire apparatus of government at every possible level, because he had the gall to actually challenge the administrative state. He is most certainly not going to get the pass that Hilary received. They'll set the entire investigative apparatus of the government to find anything that they can hang on him, no matter how far they have to stretch interpretation of the law. He has to be destroyed utterly because he is a threat. I don't think they'll go as far as killing him, (though that is a possibility), because they want to set an example for anyone else that would challenge the State.

We are well down the road to being just another banana republic. I expect the trend to accelerate in all respects.
