With intensive care capacity dropping sharply, counties in the San Joaquin Valley and Southern California regions will shut down certain businesses and activities starting Sunday to curb the spread of COVID-19 under the state’s new regional stay-at-home order.

On Saturday, the California Department of Public Health announced that ICU capacity had dropped below 15% in the two regions, triggering the new order that went into effect Saturday at 12:59 p.m. Counties in the two regions have to put the new restrictions in place starting at noon on Sunday.

According to state health officials, only 8.6% of ICU beds remain open and staffed in the San Joaquin Valley region, with 12.5% remaining in Southern California.

Here are the counties affected:

San Joaquin Valley: Calaveras, Fresno, Kern, Kings, Madera, Mariposa, Merced, San Benito, San Joaquin, Stanislaus, Tulare, Tuolumne
Southern California: Imperial, Inyo, Los Angeles, Mono, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Ventura

Yep-I’m in Tuolumne County and locked down again. Or, I should say still.

In the article, they give numbers for Sacramento county and it doesn't seem too bad.

As of Dec. 3, 373 confirmed COVID-19 patients are hospitalized in Sacramento County. 71 of those COVID-19-positive patients are in the ICU.

They give percentages for San Joaquin Valley & Southern Cal. When the numbers don't favor you, use percentages, otherwise, use the numbers.

So how many icu beds is that exactly ? and how many non-icu beds are available?

A bigger problem seems to be that most hospitals are short staffed.

How many of these beds are being used as for covid vs downstream sequelae from the lockdown, ie mental health, substance abuse, battering, cardiac, etc?

People are impacted by this crap, and it’s not pulmonary/ID related. I have 4 familial examples, 2 requiring hospitalization. The other day I was REQUIRED to wear a mask, and I had a throbbing headache afterward. If I had to wear one all day, this would wear on me too.
