The Israelis are serious people.
The prospect of having nuclear weapons delivered to your cities by people that hate you and have made no secret of wanting to finish what Hitler started has a way of focusing the mind.
I believe that Israel is setting the table for preventing Iran from having nukes - first eliminate many of those with the knowledge to recreate it, then destroy much of it (as in, before 1/20/21).
