Pulling up Apple Music on my Sonos system and chillin’ to JLP now.

Great driving music, used to listen to that and Metheny on road trips in the 80's.

“The 80s” coves way too much ground. We were on the the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal, the pop-punk, new wave, electronic, last days of disco holdouts, and many of the masters of jazz and blues were still alive. I grew up with heavy metal and rock n roll and blues, and many oldies from the 40s and 50s amd 60s as a kid from 1979 (and still going strong now too) on all that music. It’s just too much to pack into one decade. My memories that got me into music as a young nine and ten year old boy are Johnny Cash and Johnny Horton and Elvis Presley and The Beatles, and then when I got older (around 10 years old) I got into KISS, AC/DC, Ted Nugent, Black Sabbath, then on to Megadeth, Metallica, Ozzy, Anthrax, Fates Warning, Slayer...jeez, too much to think about, because I also liked old punk during the mid 80s too (and still do), like Sex Pistols, Discharge, The Exploited, G.B.H., and even some new wave - Thompson Twins, The Smiths, Depeche Mode for at least on summer in high school.

I’m happy to say that I only listen rock n roll, country rock, and all kinds of metal, rock and blues for the most part though these days when I’m not listening to politics podcasts.

Too much to distill here about the bands and music I like in one post.

Yep, bisexual, but most musicians have some sort of issue. HULU had a documentary on Jaco Pastorius, bassist with Metheny. Serious mental issues, brilliant bass player.

ZAPPA! Right on! I first heard Joe’s Garage when I was 16 in 1986, due to a friend of my younger brother’s who was older than both of us, and it really influenced my taste in expanding my music catalog. Still one of my favorite albums and definitely one of my favorite composers, musicians, and band leaders.

Learning to Crawl - The Pretenders. Lots of great songs on that record.

Nobody is permanent
Everything is on loan here
Even your wife and kids
Could be gone next year
And with what you have left
You’ll be forever, under pressure to support her
And a lover who looks strangely
Like time the avenger (tick, tick, tick).

Many others.

Wally Rap--Wally George (1986)

Wally! Wally! Wally! Wally!
The United States is the greatest nation on this earth. Yet there are subversive forces that are trying to undermine the principles that this country was founded upon. That's right. And you know who you are. The feminists, the freeloaders; the bleeding-heart judges who let cold-blooded murderers go scot-free, yet tie the hands of our police on the chance that they might violate someone's “civil rights.” I say it's time that we stop worrying about the rights of criminals and start protecting the rights of the loyal God-fearing Americans like you and me.

Wally! Wally! Wally! Wally!
Today's heavy metal groups are drug-crazed, devil-worshiping maniacs out to poison the minds and bodies of innocent teenagers who are pressured into this evil and satanic lifestyle. Those vermin who believe in legalizing marijuana are really saying, “let's legalize all drugs—and while we're at it, prostitution, bestiality and S &M.” It's about time we started getting high on something besides drugs. Why can't we get high on patriotism, God and the Bible?

Wally! Wally! Wally! Wally!
The lunatic liberals are the most hypocritical, sickest group of mental midgets I have ever met. They're against the death penalty even for mass murderers yet support the out-and-out killing of innocent unborn babies. They call it “aborting a fetus,” but these are just buzz words and they know what it really is: murdering an anborn child. Let me tell you something: what's worse, that poor little baby can't even defend itself.

Wally! Wally! Wally! Wally!
The US Senate has said that there is no place for God in our classrooms, yet that very same Senate opens each session with a prayer. How hypocritical can you get? Why should God be expelled from our public schools? Do our politicians need to be reminded that this is one nation under God? The feminists are fighting for the ERA. They don't really want the ERA; they want the SRA, the Superior Rights Amendment. They want to be superior to men. We must not let them emasculate the men of America!

Wally! Wally! Wally! Wally!
Who's got the guts to stand up for America? Ronald Reagan is the greatest president this country has ever had. It's about time we all started believing in America again. Under President Reagans' leadership, we have started. If you don't love your country, then get out of here and make your move to Moscow, pal!

1982. 16. Joe’s Garage at my friends house. His older brother’s.

That’s just a crazy coincidence. From there, I explored Zappa’s entire catalog.

My wedding song song was “Anything” off Cruising with Ruben and the Jets.

I sang “Evelyn” (a modified dog) to my son every night before bed after his prayers.

He can sing it on his own now.

This is the Central Scrutinizer.

Wow! I have no idea who these people are. Guess my 80’s were spent raising the kids. Will check the links to see what I missed.
