Until a few years ago, Japanese schoolgirls were not allowed to bleach, curl, or cut their hair short. If they did anything but shampoo and brush their hair, they wouldn’t be allowed on the school grounds.

That is Japan, where nearly all school girls have thick, straight hair.

It would play out differently here. Women with curly, unusually thin, or prematurely grey hair would present differently than Japanese school girls.

Just for starters, though, many black girls and women would all have Afros, and big ones at that. Not counting the gals who dye their hair in Jello colors, many like having the option of making themselves more attractive, and some are pretty good at it.
