I understand; I work with our state insurance. I think *everybody* hates doing annual enrollment no matter what coverage they’re dealing with.

Except for those of us whose crazy brains lean that way. LOL

Thanks for the caveat, I was feeling so alone.

Maybe you’d appreciate this :-) I can’t find anybody else that does. Except for my husband sort of, and all he wants is the answer.

I’m comparing his company’s PPO to its HSA. Put in our known expenses, premiums, the 1500 this company gives for the HSA deductibles, co-pays Etc. At about $23,000 in expenses over our minimum, they break even. Before that the HSA is cheaper, over that the PPO. BUT, the HSA’s out of pocket max kicks in at about about 24,000. So after that you pay nothing. So there’s only one little spot where the PPO would be worth it. It’s out of pocket max doesn’t kick in until 50,000 in expenses. Because it’s a 90/10 plan.

That was fun. I do it every year just to see if anything changes, and it hasn’t yet.

But the interesting/sad thing is that very few people get the HSA. Because you have to pay a lot of The Upfront expenses I guess they think it’s not worth it. But your premium and the company’s contribution go right into your HSA account and you can use it later for medical expenses. Or pay medicare premiums. It’s a win-win. And the coverage is good, same as the PPO except it’s 80/20. The first year it was 70/30. But the out-of-pocket Max is only 4,000 for one, 8000 for family, so it’s not like a lot of the HSAs that are catastrophic coverage only.
