Purple was also

*********************

my favorite color since I saw the word/color posted on my first-grade classroom (no pre-school or kindergarten back in my day!) bulletin board and asked Mrs. Persinger what it was. I knew the colors/words red and blue, but I learned that combined they make PURPLE. I merely recall fascination with the letters... Sorry. NOT. for the tangent. Forgotten memory triggered.

“...and asked Mrs. Persinger what it was.”

And that triggers my memory. As WWII was winding down, the unit known as the Brave Rifles (2nd Armored Cav) had crossed into Austria, where they liberated the Death Camp at Ebensee. The first tank in was commanded by Bob Persinger. I got to talk to him and get his story of that day. Horrible horrible things. My father was commanding another one of the tanks. He had many stories but never spoke of that day.
