Because most politicians in D.C. are getting $$$ from various corporations and/or people. Like PAC’s, Wall Street, Banks, China, Russia, and of course the drug cartels. And the so said, politicians are being bought. Trump on the other hand had billions, so the usual $$$ brokers cannot buy him. And Trump threatens to end their extra $$$ side jobs and/or their jobs. So, it makes sense to see that if a person is coming after your $$$ and/or your job, you will hate that person!
It all becomes clear if you know the reasons.

I found a plausible answer.

The hate fest didn’t begin on the escalator but soon thereafter when DJT voiced positions that were popular and so against the left’s and the journos’ opinions. He upset their narratives. When he spoke about ending illegal immigration and building the wall when he spoke what WE were thinking the left became unhinged.
