For most liberals, politics is their faith, a severe and uncompromising faith that rejects reason and practical accommodation. The result is that most liberals are rank hypocrites, like corrupt but doctrinally pure Renaissance cardinals with mistresses on the side and spies and cut throats on their payroll.
I think you’re right. They believe their influence on others is more important than whether they themselves adhere to their own standards.
