Actually they weren't fake, it was that bad in the beginning, don't know why it's not as bad now. I watched a Chinese live series about a nurse who got it who was working in one of the Wuhan hospitals at the epicenter (on 二更视频 Ergeng TV). It took her 50 days to recover, including a couple of relapses. In the early days everyone in close contact with the virus had to dress in the full PPE garb, including her husband at the beginning before she was hospitalized. Some of the doctors died.
