I am astonished that there are people in America that don't know that 'Coyotes' refers to hired thugs involved in trafficking people across the Mexican/American border.
Its a phrase that has been in common use for probably over 20 years. President Trump didn't invent it.

I suppose if you completely tune out when illegal immigration is discussed - and the horrific stories of people being abandoned in the deserts (by coyotes) - you might not know the term. But you'd have to be pretty deeply buried under a rock for these 20plus years...
