Those do look like interesting things to see.
It almost makes me feel guilty about having "Departure Terminal at Khartoum Airport" at my number 1. Almost.

Those sites really do look cool. For now, I’m more than willing to just look at pictures and read about them.

Theres also the striking ruins of the Al-Shifa plant, which was destroyed by a cruise missile during the troubles of the late 90s! Sad when that's the number 9 attraction in the country.

Why no photos of decapitated Christians?
Tourist publications need some truth...

Most of that was in the South - which gained its independence as the new country of South Sudan, and took 80% of the oil deposits with them.
They still have the infamous Darfur Region in the West though (itself larger than France), which was also the site of years of regime supported genocidal jihads against the local animists, by the islamist Jangaweed militia. Lots of slaves were taken, in addition to the land and general slaughter.

The old islamist dictator is now in jail facing a potential death sentence, and the new regime wants to chart a new path for the Nation, allied with the USA and Israel (perhaps with Saudi and Egyptian encouragement).

Agree that all are interesting, but Jabal Marra is in the center of a very dangerous region.

I’d think the airport boarding gate to the USA would be #1.

Much like those two (Swedish?) chicks that went Morocco and ended up staring in a snuff film.

It wasn’t that long ago you wouldn’t go to Serbia, Bosnia, or Herzegovina, either. Things can change very quickly.
