The video that was circulating was during the riots at the end of May and people are still posting it all over thinking that Manhattan is boarded up. Many Midtown offices are still closed but there are people going to work and riding the trains. During the day there are a lot of people out and about...are you pushing people out of your way on the sidewalk? No, but it’s certainly not a ghost town. A few luxury boutiques on Upper Madison have closed but most retail stores in Midtown are open for business. Outdoor dining in the neighborhoods is very crowded both day and night. Last week I waited 30 minutes to be seated at my local wine bar and they had tables set up all over the block and sidewalk. Sure, there are a LOT more moving trucks than normal but I’ve seen people moving in as well. Today I went to my seamstress with a dress to alter only to find out that they closed up shop which was sad to see since they were in the neighborhood forever. Lots of small businesses are gone...we’ll see what happens with the restaurants and limited dining. Every once in a while I’ll see someone in a Biden mask but I’ve seen a few Trump hats, t-shirts and bumper stickers, too...so there is hope!
