On a road trip several years ago my wife and I stopped at a McDonald’s in eastern Idaho. All of the staff were non-Mexican whites. While there we saw a group of about six little kids on bicycles arrive and take seats in the restaurant. The oldest appeared to be about nine.
They left their bicycles around the corner, leaning against the building, none of them locked. We marveled at how safe and secure the kids seemed to be.
In Germany, you see them taking the train to school at those ages.
