I remember Steve Forbert was christened “the next Dylan” for his tunes and lyrics. He had a major hit with “Romeo’s Tune” in the late 70s and then never returned to the Top 40. He wasn’t exactly pop but he sure flamed out fast.

Another group where higher things were expected was Starbuck, the group that did “Moonlight Feels Right” in the late 70s and then never had another hit.

By the way, the original lyrics to “Brandy, you’re a fine girl” was “Mandy, you’re a fine girl” but the words had to be changed since the then-unknown Barry Manilow was charting a #1 single called “Mandy”. So, the name of the song was changed to “Brandy” which I think works better because the lyrics are about a seaside waitress or bartender and brandy is, of course, a type of liquor, even though she “served them whiskey and wine”.

Never heard of "The Streak". I even looked it up on youtube. Likely because different locales had different DJ favorite playlists.

But I just realized I *do* remember second popular song of Ray'S back then: Along Came Jones.

Enchanting. Thanks for sharing, I haven’t heard that one. I wonder where those ladies are today.

Remember when streaking was a fad? That’s when Ray Stevens had the brilliant idea for a song. When I was a kid, I thought it was a riot. I even had the 45.

They had a huge hit, circa 1982, with ‘Twilight Zone’ also.

AHA actually did have a second song that made the charts... “The Living Daylights”, which was also the title track of a James Bond movie with Timothy Dalton. It didn’t do as well as “Take On zMe”, but did make the charts.

‘I Got a Line on You’ was a truly an under rated kick-ass rocker imho.

Crazy Words, Crazy Tune--Irving Aaronson & His Commanders (1927)

Napoleon marched his men to Waterloo.
What did he say to them?
"Vo Doh Dee Oh, Vo Doh Doh Dee Oh Doh!"
Oh, is that so?

Washington at Valley Forge.
Frostbit and cold, and up spoke George:
"Vo Doh Doh Vo Doh Doh Dee Oh Doh!"
No! You don't say!

And Simon Legree at Uncle Tom's cabin,
What did he say to Uncle Tom?
I'll tell you that he said:
He took his whip and said to Uncle Tom,
"Come on and Charleston!"

And in the Senate the other day,
What did our President Coolidge say?
"Vo Doh Doh, Vo Doh Doh Dee Oh Doh!"

My favorite tune by the Association. It was a local hit in Southern California in the fall of 1966, but I don't think it charted nationally.
