It’s true that Palin had the same kind of insight into the problems middle America was facing that Trump does.
Palin wanted to campaign in the rust-belt states, believing they were winnable with the right message. McCain’s campaign manager (who now works with the Lincoln Project, btw) stopped her.
Trump’s winning of those states shows Palin was right.
