Bagster posted how criminals can and do fake having seizures while being arrested; it is a known tactic. They are very convincing.

Actually, not. If you know what a real seizure looks like.

Not everybody does. I'm special, as you know.

Thanks - maybe convincing to someone who doesn’t know the difference due to lack of experience (me, for instance). But not medics/cops.

If you know what a real seizure looks like.

If you know it's fake, you also know how to stop it. A nice firm knuckle to the sternum always worked for me...not ON me, but by me.

As a matter of public education, and to get something offa my chest...

I've seen lots of TV shows where an EMT, doctor or nurse (drama, not real TV) will try to hold the patient down. They try to restrain the patient or, worse yet, they try to shove something in their mouth.

Pro tip: If you encounter someone having a seizure, all you do is make sure they don't hurt themselves. Move whatever they might bonk into. Don't move them, move the stuff.

Most of the time, it's not necessary to call the ambulance. When folks come out of a seizure, they might be confused. Just stay with and comfort them. When they're a little more oriented, ask if they need an ambulance. Too many times folks (with the best of intentions) will call for the EMTs, and the patient is stuck with a needless ambulance and ER bill.

This ad/rant was brought to you by the Life Lessons Learned League (LLLL).
