Sally’s (#9) is better than Pepe’s (#1). Although the White Clam is truly a Sally’s tradition, the potato and rosemary apizzas are novelties that are NOT the reason people go to Sally’s. They go for crust, sauce, and traditional toppings.
Good call to include Chicago’s Piece Pizza (#10). I tried Phoenix’ Pizzeria Bianco, and was disappointed. The crust just didn’t do it. If you want a “gourmet” pizza in Phoenix, “Il Forno” on Glendale is a better choice.
It is unconscionable that the cipher “Bar” pizza in New Haven is included because they have dozens of ridiculous toppings when the venerable, legendary “Modern Apizza” (founded 1939) is not even on the list!
I would also like to put in a good word for Giovanna’s in Phenix City, Alabama. It may not be one of the 101 best pizzas in the country, but it is a great pizza in a part of the country where you don’t often find it.
Is this the place?
