Lots of Obama generals still there. Republicans, including Trump. do not institute massive purges of the military officer corps the way Democrats do and have done since Truman. T̉he most spectacular purge was Clinton's purge, the most far reaching and effective has been Hussein's purge. We did not start making real headway in Iraq until new commanders had percolated up through the ranks on the field of battle. The "surge" did not make the difference but did enhance it. Clinton had purged all of the flag officers and discouraged the colonels that had combat experience.

Leftist rulers always fear the military because the leftists would seize the government by force if they could make it work and they expect the military to oppose that. Even the USSR shared the leftist Fear and the military did finally betray the Communists there. That is why the soviets and th mullahs create separate military orgs to keep the reins on the regular army. The USSr had essentially three military structures always suspicious of each other. The mullahs have their Quds Force and just keep the regular military in the closet in case of an invasion.

Soviet army & air force

Forces of the ministry of the interior (MVD)

Strategic rocket forces. Close? Or was one of those the KGB?

I will always hate Clinton for what he did to our higher ranks. He was the Vietnam era draft dodger getting even with the military whom he hated. Making high ranking officers report to the WH in civilian clothes. Did Obama do the same?

When my father passed away (WWII, Korea, Vietnam, & two Pentagon tours) Mom was cleaning out his clothes closet & several business suits turned up. Mom explained that whenever Dad’s boss & his staff in OSD were summoned to the WH, the hateful Lyndon Johnson with his phony WWII combat award made them wear civilian clothes. All active duty military.

And now there is talk of a coup. Disgusting!
