CREW and the war on Tom Delay:
Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington was founded two years ago by Norm Eisen, a lawyer, and Louis Mayberg, the head of the Bethesda, Md., mutual-fund firm ProFunds. Both say they worried that too many decisions by politicians in Washington were based on contributions. Once the founders hired Ms. [Melanie] Sloan, the organization’s made Mr. [Tom] DeLay a priority. ——— “In Washington, Watchdogs Bear Watching : One of DeLay’s Severest Critics Isn’t ,” http://www.citizensforethics.org/press/pressclip.php?view=200 By BRODY MULLINS, The Wall Street Journal May 10, 2005 via CREW website
Melanie Sloan is a former Biden staffer... also, IIRC, she was a Schumer staffer.

CREW’s “coming out” issue was to go after Dick Cheney over his “confirmation” of the contents of a Stephan Haye’s article concerning the 2002 NIE aka “FEITH MEMO.” Their other big issue was Plame/Wilson’s and again, this concerned that NIE intel memo.

CREW has been active only since February [2003] , so its profile is still relatively low. Yet Republicans detect a strong Democratic orientation. [CREW's Executive Director Melanie] Sloan, most recently an assistant U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia, is a former aide to Sen. Joseph Biden, D-Del.; then-Rep. (now Sen.) Charles Schumer, D- N.Y.; and Rep. John Conyers, D-Mich. In addition, CREW's three board members are Mark Penn, President Clinton's former pollster; Daniel Berger, a trial lawyer from Philadelphia and a Clinton fundraiser; and Louis Mayberg, the president of a mutual fund company. 10 posted on 01/28/2004 10:52:10 AM PST by jimbo123 --http://www.citizensforethics.org/news/20030719_natljrnl.php via 10 posted on 01/28/2004 10:52:10 AM PST by jimbo123
