FReeper, "AuntB", in the city of Medford, OR has had to evacuate her home in a retirement village -- and has learned by phone that the entire community and everything around it now is "nothing but ash".

I realize that she doesn't appear to be "one of us" -- but lots of us FReepers are praying for her, and she's already been offered places to stay by other FReepers...

I looked at the helicopter video and, for uncounted blocks, there is not anything but ash-covered foundations, left. (I actually thought the videographer was shooting in grayscale -- until he showed his legs in a red jumpsuit...)

One important clarification:

"THIS IS NOT TRUE!"

...BUT -- it was the "Almeda fire" that hit Medford (Pop 200,000 plus...)

"Police have opened a criminal arson investigation into at least one Oregon blaze, the Almeda Fire, Ashland Police Chief Tighe O'Meara said."

IMO, No matter how the arson stories turn out, it's going to be hard to convince Americans that folks who start fires and throw Molotov cocktails inside cities -- had nothing to do with these horrible wildfires...

Man arrested, charged with arson in connection with southern Oregon fire

A Southern Oregon man is accused of arson in connection with a fire that has caused major damage to several towns in Jackson County.

Michael Jarrod Bakkela, 41, has arrested on two counts of arson, 15 counts of criminal mischief and 14 counts of reckless endangerment.

The fire Bakkela set is considered to be one of two origins of the Almeda fire, said Oregon State Fire Marshal’s office spokesman Rich Tyler. The two fires quickly merged, Tyler said.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release Friday afternoon that on Tuesday evening, a resident of Phoenix saw a person, later identified as Bakkela, lighting a fire behind their house on Quail Lane. Because there was an impending blaze, the residents who saw him set the fire had to flee their home.

When state troopers and sheriff’s deputies arrived, they saw Bakkela standing close to a large fire that was threatening several homes.
