Poor idiot, there will never be a "colony" on Mars. No soil, average temperature of -80 degrees Fahrenheit. The planet is frozen. Everything needed to sustain a "colony" must be sent from Earth. The "colony" will be dependent on Earth; making Earthlings supporting an unsustainable planet. This is his latest ploy at a new federal money grant. Do you not have enough money Muskateer?

There will eventually be a populated Mars because it is inevitable. And for the same reason our ancestors came to the new world. I would love to look down from Olympus Mons, two and a half times higher than Mount Everest, but I'm old. Someday somebody else will.

Of rather more moment, Mars does not have a magnetic field. That means any colonists who stay on the surface will fry. Of course, the colonists could stay deep underground, but why go to Mars to do what you can do in Kentucky?
