1. Potus has updated his background to reflect the quote from Virgil on the 9/11 memorial museum.
But what exactly does that quote mean?
And who is Virigl?
2. Virgil was one of the most important poets in Roman history. His most famous work is Aeneid, where the quote was pulled (book 9). He was also featured in Dante's Divine Comedy--and guided Dante through the levels of Hell in into heaven.
3. Aeneid is the story of Aeneas, who in Roman mythology, is the first Roman hero and the ancestor of Rome. Aeneas survived the fall of Troy and the first 6 books of Aeneid is about his travels from Troy to Rome.
4. As Troy fell, Aeneas was told by the gods to grab a group of buddies and high-tail it outta there and get to Italy. The group he gathered were called the Aeneads, who became the First Romans.
5. Troy fell basically because the goddess, Juno, was pissed. And was eff Trojans, dude. The story starts with the Aeneads weathering a crazy storm in the Mediterranean (apt--the storm is upon us).
6. But another god, Neptune, is like "chill, Juno," and stops the storm.
7. The first 6 books are all kinds of tales of the Aeneads' travels. Much of the time they're sailing around. And Juno just KEEPS effin' with them! There's like a TON of storms while they travel.
8. At the end of book 6 Aeneas goes to the underworld meets some gods and fates and then is shown a vision by his dead dad of the Destiny of Rome
9. They get to Italy. But, of course, people don't like them.
But some people do.
So, what do they do?
Why not have a war?
The night before, Aeneas leaves his camp to meet with a "friendly" in the spot the will soon become Rome.
10. But as they're meeting, in the cover of darkness, who sends this dude, Turnus, to attack Aeaneas' camp? The B!#*(#, Juno!
11. And here's where the Quote from the 9/11 museum comes in.
Nisus and Euryalus are killed in the attack.
Virgil uses these characters to represent loyalty and valor.
12. The quote is for these two brave dudes.
They were super brave and loyal to the Trojans and Aeneas, but they were also gay.
Which (quick google search) has sparked silly controversy.
13. The next day, they have their battle.
Ultimately, Aeneas and his group are victorious.
Aeneas kills that douscher Trunus and the Aeneads are free to start building Rome.
14. So, get the hell over the fact that Nisus and Euryalus were gay.
Focus on what they represented, loyalty and valor.
Two ideals that Americans hold in high regard.
Two ideals that are intertwined with each other (which may have been the purpose for the "lover" idea
15. Our country and our ideals were threatened that day when evil mother F#*$&S attacked the twin towers, the pentagon and tried to hit the capital. And that evil is still out there, and like Juno, they just keep on tryin'
16. That's the meaning of the quote:
"No day shall erase you from the memory of time."
We will never forget the people we lost.
But we can never forget what is at stake if we do:
Our ideals, our freedoms, and our country.
And Juno is still out there-- A lier.

Exactly my point! Its usually used as a comm on here so seeing it automatically kicked me into decode mode. This meme explains it perfectly.
