Erik Larson wrote “In the Garden of Beasts” about life in pre-war Nazi Germany. Apparently when the S.A. staged a parade, German citizens were required to give the Nazi salute. If they didn’t a few brownshirts would go over and beat the crap out of them. If you were a non-citizen and could explain quickly enough, they might leave you alone.
I wonder if our own homegrown fascists are as accommodating as the brownshirts?
