That is exactly the issue.

We don’t say they die of the flu unless they wound up tested for it, despite comorbidities.

For instance, about 245,000 actually got tested for the flu during the 2019-2020 flu season, as of mid April. About 24,500 of people tested for the flu died. That is a 10% death rate.

Except, it’s not. It’s an assumed 0.1% death rate. This is due to the estimated number of people not ever tested but believed to not have possibly died from it, so they all “survived.”
