Carol was first tenured at Princeton, and finished her academic career at Vanderbilt. She is a black Christian Conservative. Before she left Vanderbilt she overcame an attempt to have her tenure at Vanderbilt removed, under false claims about how she spoke of her Christian views about LGBT issues in the classroom. She sustained that challenge, but did not remain at Vanderbilt for a long time after that. Most recently she ran for major of Nashville, coming in third.
