Why would Brennan or Shapiro lie? They know whatever happens is going to happen. If they’re lying, that, presumably, will become apparent in the next month or two. What’s to be gained from lying? I’m not saying they’re not. I just don’t understand the motive.

I’ve read that convicted murderers often claim innocence until the moment they’re executed.

How many times have the Clintons lied, even when the lies were transparent? Delay, obfuscate, create false narratives, keep the public unaware, never give up, never admit anything, throw out misdirections, and keep going. Try to get in front of a compromised judge. Hope for an election miracle. They'll never give up.
I think two things:
1. If miraculously, the dims get in, they will whitewash everything and he can say; "See?" and get a new gov't job.
2. If he goes down, his worst crime won't be this lie. Won't even be remembered.
