I don’t understand why CA would be singling out this industry. Many companies use contractors to supplement employees and they should be allowed to staff as they see fit.

It did not target just these companies... The law applies to all industries who use "Contract Employees" (the "Gig" economy). Too hard to collect taxes from individuals so, just mandate that they are all employees and concentrate on the bigger fish!

they’re not: the legislation applies to ALL independent contractors, including musicians, bands, freight haulers, plumbers, barbers, hair-stylists, and millions more ...
