I recall that method being a *thing* in the 1980s. The only part I remember is the 9’s multiplication facts.

Then in the 1990s, there was “touch Math.”

Good tools to have in the Math toolbox! Some students learn better using “tricks.” Hands-on activities and using manipulatives to explore math concepts are also great.

I was trying to be funny. With Chisanbop, you count on your fingers using them like an abacus.

I saw a very young chinese girl on the Johnny Carson show, using it.
Somebody was giving long sets of random numbers to do whatever math...
she had the answer before the numbers were fully entered into a calculator.
Blew me away.
