NBA ratings continue to be inexplicably low this month, with all of the Twitter chatter surrounding the leagues return not translating into an actual increase in viewers.
When the NBA resumed its season at the end of July, many observers assumed it would be a ratings boon for all involved. Networks were starved for sports programming as a result of COVID-19, and basketballs glut of big name stars should have converted into a ton of viewership.
Only it didnt.
In the first week of action, the NBAs ratings immediately sputtered. Rather than spiking due to an increase in hype and intrigue around the return of basketball, the numbers dipped to 14 percent below pre-COVID averages.
Last week, the games that took place from Thursday to Sunday drew smaller ratings than the same period the prior week.

“...Define Inexplicably...”
Inexplicably = BLM (Burn, Loot, Murder)
Really? A bunch of overpaid jocks supported by an organization that wants me to watch as they parade their political statement on a medium that I can shut off? Good luck with that...click!
I could tolerate one of those vintage NFL vibrating board games.
Basketball is really a game for people with low IQs. Just watching some guys run back and forth for an hour throwing a ball through a hole. Game usually doesn’t mean anything until the last 20 seconds.
Why do they even have their jobs if these things continuously flummox them?

I thought they moved to China?? If Not, WHY NOT?
The action is continuous. Dem mayors won’t let the refs in that new game blow the whistle. And no commercials!
Beyond COVID-19, Antifa, BLM, and the political messaging, the whole setup for the continuation of the NBA season sucks. Some teams aren't even playing, which has to impact TV viewership.
Besides the need to meet the contractual obligations for the TV contracts and not see a massive drop in revenue, this is all about getting LeBron another title.
That's EXACTLY what is literally killing NBA TV ratings. Fans want sports to be an escape from real life, not the other way around.
Inexplicable? Plenty of explanations, and one in particular.
Ever scan the crowd at an NBA game? All white.
Two teams show up, flip a coin.
Winner wins.
Six months later the teams with the most wins show up for playoff.
Repeat.
inexplicably?
Uhh no. Perfectly explainable, and it didn't start with Covid. It has been a work in progress for a while. Thank your thugs, wife beaters, drug addicts, grievance mongers, anthem kneelers, and America haters. Thank Antifa and BLM. Thank Michael Brown, "the gentle giant". Thank the culture of the NBA.
I'd rather my toilet back up and ooze all over the floor than to attend an NBA game. I'm not kidding.
What a perplexing mystery. Whatever could it be?

“inexplicably low”
Inexplicable to whom???
Been a Celtics fan for about 50 years (since I was 10 and heard their games on a portable radio).
It has been a pleasant diversion to have them back, playing in the bubble, if for no other reason than I stop worrying about PDJT getting reelected for a couple of hours!!!
Hoping, BTW, that Jaylen Brown doesn’t actually become another LeBron, shooting his mouth too often, and sticks to playing the game!
“”All of us racists are no longer viewing.”””
White hoods to wash. Crosses to burn. Who has time to watch sportsball?
It’s not inexplicable at all.
