Southern NM was almost always pretty hardcore conservative, and is still, mostly, except Las Cruces, the biggest city in the southern half which turned hard left and got corrupt vote counters in 2018. Heck, even Albuquerque was moderately conservative until Bill Richardson gave illegal aliens a pathway to voting when he was Governor.
Even parts of Northern NM are still pretty conservative.
But, like nearly every state. The larger cities are swinging the statewide vote from fairly conservative to completely insane.
I grew up in northern New Mexico (though don’t live there now). Parts were conservative, but most people voted Democrat. And they still do, for the most part, and they cannot seem to realize that the two are not compatible at all. But perhaps the happenings in the last few months are waking some people up to the current political reality.
I am very curious to see the county by county voting record after the upcoming election...
