My grandmother, born in 1888, moved in with us in 1956 when she became ill, and used to tell my brother and I stories about her Father taking the family to church in a horse and buggy. Being a dumb kid, I remember asking here if she ever saw President Lincoln. LOL!

I remember an Amish family travelling to town in horse and buggy..on the road we traveled by car in the mid 1950s...in Washington state.

I always marveled at my maternal grandfather’s life. Born in 1890 died in 1987. Crossed the Missouri river in a wagon on a barge at 5 with his family to homestead in the Nebraska sand hills. Saw the first automobile in his life at age 17. When he died the Shuttle program had been going for several years.

He loved science, was a high school science teacher, and saw that amazing slice of history in his lifetime.
