WHy do you have to get revaccinated after the stem cell transplant? Was it your own cells?

I had donor cells. But, the chemo decimated the bone marrow to prepare it for the new stem cells. AML leukemia originated in the bone marrow and circulated in the blood. Since the cancer is in the bone marrow, it has to be destroyed. Sort of with a kidney transplant, you take one out before replacing it. All of our immunities are in our blood cells, our wbc’s. Since they are destroyed, all of our immune system is destroyed with it. So, I was like a new born baby. Everything was ‘novel’. All germs, virus’s, bacteria’s, molds, etc.

Donor cells can attack any organ called gvhd. I have gvhd in my eyes making my vision just terrible. Double and blurry vision. There are days typing anything is like guess work. Yesterday was one of those days. Hence why I needed a member to chill.
