DiBlasio has destroyed the city.

Yet with the middle class and higher American-born leaving, the city voter base is getting even more leftist and more likely to re-elect s/him. They have the votes now to embrace 100% socialism at the city level, even print their own currency to solve all their problems. While socialism enables the crappiest to rise to the top, there are reasons socialism doesn't last very long at just the city level. But there's still enough time to loot the sinking ship and prepare an overseas escape plan for the soon-to-be rich leaders. Swiss banks love the socialist end state.

New York City has a long history of cycles.

They get a good mayor, the city gets prosperous, there is lots of new construction, the population increases, the crime decreases, the schools get better, etc.

Then they get complacent and decide they want to share some of the new wealth with the poorer folks in town. They elect a left-wing mayor. Crime goes up, schools get worse, the city loses many wealthy residents, the population decreases. Landlords stop maintaining the apartments and new construction stops.

At some point it gets bad enough that a significant portion of the working poor decide they need to improve the quality of life in the city, particularly when their apartment building starts to get infested with rats and criminals start roaming the hallways and entrance-ways.

They elect a good mayor and the cycle starts again!

Like what finally happened to Detroit, this time may be different. When the socialists are in charge of vote counting, the only voting that matters is with two feet. Like migrating locusts, half of current NYC residents moved there from far away. Only the worst of the worst can't move again.

Everything this mental-midget does is a disaster. He and DeBlasio must have been spawned by the same diseased prostitute.

A sweet, human, story!

Humans haven’t changed much in 3000 years, and the Dem/commie/media won’t succeed at changing them.

” he city voter base is getting even more leftist and more likely to re-elect s/him. “

Great insight!
It pays to “burn the village down to save it” for DeBlasio.

“...city voter base getting more leftist...”

Exactly. I told my husband a few days ago that this will happen - the socialist mayor and governor will get reelected because of demographics. The millions who want freebies are left and will vote communist. They will disenfranchise the rest of the state as well and so the governor will remain communist/socialist.

My two daughters and their families are getting out of Brooklyn; all of their friends are leaving as fast as possible.

“These jobs are goin’ boys,
An they aren’t coming back.”

To your hometown.

NYC is a dying city, just like Seattle. NYC has mile after mile of empty buildings. The loss of industry, business and jobs is a progessive disease. Another delightful result od progressivism.

“Yep. If they kept it to 2-4 weeks people would probably move back, then they realized they could use it against Trump and now realize they messed up.”

LOL. I guess they forgot that most people live in the real world and aren’t willing to move around, to sell their homes and buy a new one, at the drop of a hat.

What drew affluent people to want to live in NYC?

Night clubs, great restaurants, museums, plays, concerts, being able to network with other rich people at cocktail parties -— all of which are now shut down.

Why live in NYC?

There are probably thousands of similar stories with people changing their lives to help family members survive this bs!

Not just the high end taxpayers.

Here’s an interesting little factoid from Upstate: An Upstate owner of an existing $200,000 to $300,000 home can pay thousands more annually in property tax than the owner if an existing $3,000,000 home on Long Island.

In my neck of the woods, the middle class are bugging out, too.

Yeah, and most of them have no relation to tax/other policies of governments.

People love.. more than they ‘think’.

Law of unintended consequences. Eat it Cuomo!

Here’s hoping that if they were smart enough to become wealthy and smart enough to fell NYC that they are smart enough to leave their liberal politics behind.

The economic situation in New York is not likely to improve given the tax and regulatory environment and the bonehead social policies of the current rulers. So why would they want to return?

...the majority of residents moving out of Manhattan, 61 percent, are earning over $100,000.

It takes a $100K income just to live modestly in (most of) Manhattan.

Not in the suburbs. Prices rising. Some all cash.

The wealthy fleeing, most bringing along the unfortunate voting habits that ruined the city and will eventually ruin their new neighborhoods.
