Any .40 Hammerless Revolvers?

Posted on 08/01/2020 8:37:21 AM PDT by Mean Daddy

Using Google is about worthless and searching www.gunbroker.com wasn't much better, but is anyone aware of a hammerless .40 revolver? Thinking about getting a new gun but want to maintain the same ammo. Lots of .38 and .357 but wanting something that I can carry in a pocket. Thoughts?

Less likely to malfunction and more likely to fit in my pocket.

Charter Arms makes or did make 40s&w revolvers. Not hammerless though.

Charter Arms has one. But I think it has a hammer..

Use Duckduckgo for those type searches. d:^)

I suppose you could buy a Taurus Model 405 and bob the hammer.

IF you decide to “bob the hammer” on any given model, it would be best to have a gunsmith do it for you. The hammer spring is designed/sized based on the weight of the hammer. By bobbing it, it becomes lighter, and you may need to go to a slightly heavier hammer spring to get reliable primer strikes. But IF you do have to, it shouldn’t be that big of a deal to have a heavier spring dropped in it to compensate for the lesser weight hammer. Be aware that the heavier spring will also make the trigger pull a little heavier as well, but that may not be a bad thing on a CC revolver.

Here...just pull the trigger twice. 22+22=44...better than a 40 cal.

All seriousness aside...I'm looking for the 22LR version for the wife. She no likee guns, and this is just a point and shoot revolver. Just in case she ever needs one at the last second. Yes, I'd make her shoot it some at the range for familiarity sake. I'd personally consider the 38 or 357, but doesn't look like there's a Ruger 40 in LCR. Also, any more, when I look at guns, I try to stick with one that aligns with the ammo supply I already have. May be your case..

Yep. Buy any .40 revolver and bob the hammer yourself.

Ever considered a High Standard .22 magnum derringer? Two shots, concealed hammer...bang, bang. VERY bad to be hit with .22 magnum, especially up close. They’re hard to find, but they ARE available. Mine has a holster that looks like a wallet. Awesome.

Double barrel 22 WinMag...that would get someone’s attention real quick.

The trigger is a little scary to me. Hate for it to hook on something in my pocket and takeout Mr Roboto... ;-)

But it’s legal in CALIFORNIA!
