This press conference with LoriLightfoot, mayor of Chicago, and CPD superintendent Brown is very informative. Some of the takeaways are the mayor saying to the people who looted “you have no right, no right, to take and destroy the property of others“

Later she said “we can’t continue to allow this to happen.” That appears to me to mean that they did allow it to happen before, especially when she said “for people to believe that there is no accountability in our criminal justice system.” I say that is exactly what people believe.

She then gave cover to herself for the rioting that happened earlier by mentioning “the righteous uprising in the wake of the killing of George Floyd” and “racial and social injustices” in Chicago and in the country.

The CPD Superintendent said that within minutes of a police involved shooting there were caravans of cars going to the downtown area. Eventually they were 400 officers sent downtown. They made 100 arrests. The superintendent said “these looters act as if there are no consequences” I say of course they act like there are no consequences because there have been none in the past.

I wonder if some of the business owners have gotten through to mayor Lightfoot telling her that they will just not come back to the city if something is not done. Who is going to go shopping in these areas.

She gets all tough when the looters enter the wealthy donor areas, doesn’t she?
