It was actually Putin puppet Russian President Dmitry Medvedev who was more or less a place holder for Putin who was out of the presidency due to term limits.
Obama's "hot mic" exchange took place in 2012, when he told Medvedev "after my election I have more flexibility."
Medvedev told Obama that he would "transmit this information to Vladimir," as in Vladimir Putin who was prime minister at the time.
At the time even Obama knew that Putin was the true man-in-charge and Medvedez was just a bench warmer.
So the American press didn't care that Obama was colluding with Putin back in 2012
But imagine the uproar and accusations of "Traitor!" if the press ever caught President Trump making a similar overture of statement!
