“There was a program a few year ago that allowed people to purchase a rundown house in Detroit for $1.”
There was an HGTV series a few years back, forget the name, but the rehab lady who was the lead on the program bought a house in Detroit under that program. I was thinking at the time...she’s crazy. She did a great job on the house. She also took a vacant lot on the block and converted it to a community garden. There were a lot of neighbors tending their little sub-plots...kind of neat. I don’t know what eventually became of the house...would love to know.
I watched another program about Detroit folks starting little restaurants out of their homes and even on vacant lots around the town. Some as basic as throwing up a cabana/tent outside and cooking at a grill. Another might be meals IN THE PERSON’S HOUSE with the menu changing every night, reservations-only seating. Another was a genuine restaurant but only seated 12-15 people. The show may’ve been Diners, Dives & Drive-Ins, not sure. But it was fascinating...the people working hard to bring Detroit back.
Wow, thank you for the info about people getting together to spruce up Detroit.
How uplifting! :)
Have a great rest of the day!
