Brittney Griner didn’t take the floor for the national anthem during the Phoenix Mercury’s debut in the WNBA bubble on Saturday. Don’t expect her to do so moving forward.
The Mercury center and 2019 league MVP runner-up told reporters on a video call Monday that the WNBA should stop playing the anthem this season.

The WNBA has no place in sports.
The WNBA is a fully subsidized, virtue signaling project of the NBA. It is akin to Comcast and NBC. Revenues don’t matter.

Like others, Griner also argued that the anthem is out of place at sporting events regardless. The anthem isn’t played before other public entertainment gatherings like movies, concerts and plays.
“It’s not played at Walmart. It’s not played when you go to Six Flags. Why is it played before sporting events?”
Sports is nothing more than a celebration of our freedom. It isn’t a necessity, like going to the store. She says is means no disrespect to the military or the country. Not sure how you thread that needle....just because it was written during a time not everyone had the same rights doesn’t mean the timeless ideals have any less meaning. Quite the opposite, it shows distinctly American can and has become dramatically better, by holding these ideals close and fighting for them when necessary.
She has zero appreciation of exactly how radical America was in the context of history. These radicals today are pussies compared to the Founders. They risked everything. Brittany risks nothing.
