Disturbing new revelations that permanent immunity to the coronavirus may not be possible have jeopardized vaccine development and reinforced a decision by scientists at UCSF and affiliated laboratories to focus exclusively on treatments.https://t.co/SqRqEirVqW; Robert F. Two consecutive studies have shown hydroxychloroquine to be effective in fighting COVID-19. Now a Yale epidemiologist says it is the key to defeating the virus. What do you think? https://t.co/EesK1ICjtu; John Solomon (@jsolomonReports) July 26, 2020
I was saying this way back in the Spring. Viruses, almost all, mutate. 'Treatments' is an interesting term. I have read of some promising possibilities, how the virus replicates, how it metabolizes, those sorts of things.
Plasma with antibodies is one of the older treatments (1918 Spanish Flu pandemic.) It is still subject over time to mutations.
One critical unknown factor with CoViD-19 is whether this particular strain was manufactured - specifically in the Wuhan lab. Some adaptations of the virus to human vulnerabilities tend to point to 'accelerated' mutations, not impossible natural mutations but not likely either. The Chinese could help clear this up; they have chosen not to.
The Chinese, intentionally or not, have weakened our economy and our stability. Sooner or later these questions need to be answered. Right now we are just fighting to control the epidemic and it's consequences.
