Go to My PC
VNC used to work for me when my kids were in College and I was their Administrator more than a decade ago.
Do you have an IT department? They can block things at the firewall, that won’t let you connect, despite what’s installed on your office PC.
I’d check with them first.
teamviewer
I use AnyDesk
I’ve tried them all and I prefer teamviewer.
I routinely do remote connections all over the world and Teamviewer just works. I actually have a commercial license but for home stuff, the free version works just fine.
VNC would be 2nd.
Gotomypc would be last. I hate it. It works, pretty much. Most of the time. Ugh.
Remotepc good price. Works great. Use VPN in addition.
No IT dept I’m on my own (this will need a learning curve)LOL
TeamViewer or Cloudberry Remote Assistant.
I use Cloudberry simply because it is truly free and they dont bug you about purchasing like TeamViewer does.
Windows 10 has a Remote Desktop Connection app built in. I use it daily and it even allows for multiple monitors. (I have two at home to mirror the two I have on my computer in the office).
Splashtop ... been using it for years
Also a big fan of teamviewer.
There are some basic settings that need to be checked/configured before you can access your desktop remotely - no matter what software app you use. This guide gives you a basic overlay: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4028379/windows-10-how-to-use-remote-desktop
One of the critical decisions you’ll need to keep in mind is whether the changes you’re making will result in a computer that is more vulnerable to hacking. Make sure that the password you’re using to access your computer is complex!
Good luck ;’}
Another TeamViewer vote...free for personal use. GoToMyPC is good but not free for personal use anymore.
Oops, forgot to mention “Microsoft Remote Desktop” (Remote into Windows machines)...also free, but less features than TeamViewer I think.

TeamViewer personal/free version:

TeamViewer is the best thing I’ve found and I’ve used a lot of them.
I’ve used logmein very well, but don’t think it’s applicable for a short term thing. We use Citrix at my job and that is just the bomb. But, with logmein you can print locally, we can’t with our Citrix.
If youre on a Mac, I highly recommend Screens 4 by edovia.com. Im able to remote in on or off the company VPN from home to my work machine. I can also copy/paste between the remote machine and my home machine.
For my office Windows machine, I use bitvise SSH server (free version) and Remote Desktop (built-in). That way my machine is secure and all connections are encrypted. Only the SSH port (22) is open on the firewall. Oh. and I only allow a single login to work...everything else gets banned.
On my linux boxes, I usually just use ssh.
