Funny thing I learned from Edvard Radzinsky's "Stalin" was that when you read Soviet Politburo reports, from the 1920s on, you had to watch out for "in-depth language." Hitler used to do the same thing. He would make some relatively mild criticism about say, a Jewish owned business, and the next day the building would have mysteriously burned to the ground. That kind of thing.
