What a complicated story. The sheriff did a great job...it was like hearing the narration of a movie, and he also appealed for funds for the families of the dead to be able to bury them. Polk County has Winter Haven and some well-off places, but a lot of the county is very rural and poor.
It appears that some of these people knew each other, at least from a business deal over a truck. The three murderers were living in a trailer in the woods and the one who actually did the killings seems like a character from Deliverance.
what I think, without proof as of yet, is that meth is involved, especially with the paranoid rant of the main killer.
Meth is decimating our rural areas around the nation and it’s heartbreaking to watch.
Why are people like this still walking the streets? 230 felonies in 12 years.
According to Polk County Grady Judd at a press conference on Wednesday, July 22 at 11am, three arrests have been made in the horrific massacre of three friends fishing.
According to Judd, Tony Wiggins was the trigger man. His criminal career began at 12 years old. Wiggins is now 26 years old. His criminal history includes 230 felonies. It was tips from the community that directed the Polk County Sheriffs Office to this known community criminal.
The short version of the story is that there are a lot of transplants from up north who vote against increasing property taxes. As a result, the education system is woeful.
Additionally, the phosphate business which is how a lot of Polk residents make a living, has decreased in recent years.
Ignorance and poverty frequently lead to crime in there you have the recipe for Polk County in a nutshell.
There’s been rumor-level info floating around that the oldest of the three (Kevin Springfield) was having an affair with a woman; her husband had a “full-out brawl” with Springfield the morning of the day the murders occurred.
Money, drugs and/or women covers 99% of these types of cases.
Catfish fishing at night is all that you need to know about that county.

I wonder if the Coen brothers have sent someone to scout it out for their next movie.
more detail here—
Judd identified the suspects as Tony T.J. Wiggins, 26, his girlfriend Mary Whitmore, and Wiggins brother Robert Wiggins, 21.
Among the leads that drew detectives to the suspects were tips to the Crime Stoppers line.
Look at T.J. Wiggins from Frostproof, Judd quoted some of the callers saying. Not because they had any idea he did it, just because hes mean.
Tony Wiggins was first arrested at age 12 and has a history of 230 felony charges and 15 convictions, Judd said.

It not the meth, its people turning away from values and making poor choices.
No, but you can look up Sheriff Judd’s greatest hits on Youtube.
I especially like the one about “that’s all we had”.
Senseless....bunch of white trash...
Take a look at Tj Wiggins Facebook page. One scary dude.
He certainly looks like he’s no one to f with.
These three are truly cold and evil. Wow.

“...After the brutal murder, officers say the three went to a McDonalds and ordered several double cheeseburgers and McChicken sandwiches...”
You know the girl will flip, possibly even the 2nd brother.
They look like half-brothers at most.
Life is cheap in America and getting cheaper.
Is this a preview of the new season of Ozark?
