At this point, everyone pretty much assumes that Biden must and will pick a black woman. It’s a balancing act for his campaign. He needs to energize his black base but not alienate moderate swing and independent voters. Let’s review his options...

1. Kamala Harris. Probably the front-runner of the group, but not by much. From CA, she doesn’t do much to shake up the electoral map. And her Jamaican/Indian background doesn’t do much for her street cred either. But her law enforcement background and non-ghetto background and demeanor would probably make her among his safest options among the gang. She’s well spoken and a decent debater.

2. Karen Bass. Same CA issues as Harris. Bass is a bit more ghetto. She’s a dull speaker and her debating skills are relatively unknown.

3. Mooch Obama. She has popularity and would grab everyone’s attention in a way that the others wouldn’t. She’d also probably do the most to energize black voters to turn out. Her debate skills are unknown, but probably poor. She’s not used to being challenged and may not be able to take a punch. No evidence though that she wants the gig.

4. Stacy Abrams. Uh, no.

5. Susan Rice. Probably the smartest of this group. She’s boring as hell though. Her issues related to the waning days of the Obama administration and the various investigations might be an issue but probably not as the media would sweep them under the rug.

6. Val Demings. She might help energize the black vote in Florida. Her law enforcement background could be helpful. She’s not very bright though and her speaking style (e.g., droppin’ her Gs) could alienate moderate/swing white voters.

7. Keisha Lance Bottoms. A bit more level-headed than some of the others. She might help energize the black vote in Georgia. She’s a bit ghetto, though, and her cockiness might be off-putting to white swing voters.
